Despite its size, the ASUS Eee PC Netbook 1000HE a powerful machine. It is equipped with an Intel Atom N280 Processor, 1 GB of RAM fitted (expandable) to 2 GB) and a decent 160GB 5400rpm SATA hard drive (plus 10 GB of free online storage. With 2 GB installed, it runs Windows 7 Beta with ease. It also has a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam (which works very well for a cheap laptop), a memory card slot and a microphone. The model I tested has a 10.2-inch widescreen display and receives thehelpful Multi-touchpad that allows zooming and srolling through documents and Web sites.
The 1000HE comes with Windows XP Home and some basic office programs. It booted into Win XP in about 40 seconds. The netbook is powered by a six-cell, 8700mAh battery, which may remain for Asus to 9 1 / 2 hours, even if it is not connected to an external power source (in fact, you have to turn down the brightness of this battery achieve life). The netbook is equipped with a surprisinglygreat-sounding audio (although it lacks a subwoofer). It has a keypad response system (92% of the size of a standard keyboard). I used the keyboard in one day, but the keys are relatively flat and the keyboard flexing.
The netbook is Wi-Fi-enabled and comes with 802.11b/g/n network connection. The netbook weighs around 3.2 pounds, and it is not as thin as the other netbooks such as the S101 or the 1002HA. During one of the heaviest netbooks around, the newly designed ASUS1000HE Eee PC netbook is a sensible choice if you are looking for a low-cost laptop.
